WILDERNESSE ESTATE

This contemporary home is located on the Wildernesse Estate, a 300 acre conservation area in the north east corner of Sevenoaks, Kent.  Following a substantial renovation and the purchase of a swim spa during lockdown, a plan was developed to create new leisure and entertainment spaces that would include a gym, yoga studio and dedicated swimming area, as well as a large pergola complete with outdoor fireplace for family lunches and evening entertaining.

An overgrown bank of rhododendrons was cleared to make space for the new structures and generous planting areas were added to ensure that the hard landscaping felt bedded into the garden rather than imposing on it.

A relaxed planting scheme of vibrant bulbs, colourful summer perennials and loose grasses have been combined with beautiful multi-stem parrotia persica trees to provide year-round colour and form.  Around the pergola, deep borders of white roses, miscanthus ‘Morning Light’ and topiarised weeping pears help to blur the boundaries and create a sense of enclosure and privacy when you are enjoying a meal outside.

Rhiannedd’s design has completely transformed how we use our garden. Her design has drawn us to its wider corners and as a result the garden feels so much bigger. We have had many days and evenings entertaining family and friends in the new spaces. Her sense of proportion for the structures was perfect - whilst generous in size they nestle organically into the garden. Added to that, her planting and lighting plan has really given day and night, and all year round, wow factor. In short we are absolutely delighted with our new garden!
