Located on the leafy south side of Sevenoaks, this substantial 1950s home looks onto protected AONB woodland at the front and a cricket pitch at the back. In such a biodiverse area full of protected species, it was important to design a garden that would be nature rich.
A slightly awkward sloping triangular plot is being reworked to create a generous new garden with clearly defined areas for sitting, eating and children’s play.
Great flow is achieved with super wide steps that lead down to a sunny and flexible entertaining area with ample space for lounging and dining with family and friends. A change of materials adds interest to a cosy chill out area designed to capture the last of the evening sunshine. A fun stepping stone path leads to a dedicated children’s play area at the rear of the garden and all the seating areas face onto a football-friendly lawn.
The deep planting borders close to the house ensure that the views out from the new picture windows are of trees and flowers, not furniture. Pathways through the planting are immersive and provide a strong emotional connection to the seasonal planting in the garden as well as a dry route all the way around for wetter days.
